Meetings

AGC has both day and evening meetings to accommodate the schedule of our diverse members. Meetings are held at the Bourne United Methodist Church at 37 Sandwich Road in Bourne unless otherwise noted.

 

2026 MEETINGS

September 9 (Wednesday) Morning Meeting         

9:00 am – Board Meeting 

10:00 am – Refreshments/Social followed by the Meeting & Program at 11:00 am

PROGRAM: “OWLS 101”

Speaker:  Kim Snyder, Southeast Mass Audubon

Ms. Snyder will discuss owls’ significance in local habitats, conservation efforts to protect them, and the best time/locations/ methods for identifying owls by sight and sound

 

September 16 (Wednesday) Evening Meeting

PROGRAM: “LATE SUMMER COLOR AND ORNAMENTAL PERRENIALS SUITABLE FOR CAPE COD” 

Speaker: Paul Split, a nationally known speaker and designer 

 

October 14 (Wednesday) JOINT Morning Meeting

PROGRAM: “TENDING YOUR GARDEN IN THE FALL”

Speaker: William Clark, Master Gardener

We’ll explore the “Do’s and Don’ts” of caring for your garden as the growing season winds down.

 

October 21 (Wednesday) Evening Meeting

5:30 pm – Refreshments/Social followed by the Meeting & Program at 6:00 pm

PROGRAM: “LET’S GET CREATIVE AND HAVE SOME FUN”

Speaker: Anna Holmes, Floral Designer 

Anna Holmes will show us how to incorporate household, workplace, sport, and novelty items with flowers and plants to create fun designs

 

November 18 (Wednesday) Morning MEMBER ONLY Meeting

10:00 am  Refreshments/Social followed by the Meeting & Program at 11:00 am

PROGRAM: “HYDRANGEA HOLIDAY TABLETOP TREE WORKSHOP”

Speaker:  Anna Holmes, floral designer

Designer Anna Holmes will teach us to make a holiday tabletop tree using dried hydrangeas.

Sign-up is required. Each participant must bring 3-6 color dried hydrangeas heads and small hand clippers to participate.

 

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER CLUB WORKSHOPS:

Nov.  29 ~ Pocasset Community Center ~12:30 – 3:30 pm:   Boxwood Tree Adornment Workshop. Come help make and decorate boxwood trees for our Holiday Green Sale. 

Dec. 1 ~ Bourne United Methodists Church ~ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm:  Green Sale Wreath Workshop (Pizza will be served) 

Dec. 2 ~ Bourne United Methodist Church ~ 3:00 – 7:00 pm:  Centerpiece Workshop (Appetizers will be served)

Betsy Woodley will read The Night Before Christmas. 

Members who wish to participate in the Ornament Swap should bring an unwrapped, inexpensive garden-themed ornament you have either made or purchased.  This has become a lovely Club tradition.

January 13 (Wednesday)  JOINT Morning Meeting

PROGRAM:   “BEAUTIFUL DROUGH REISTANT GARDENS”

Speaker:  Susan Anthony Leigh is owner of Dove Flower Cottage Grden Designs in Scituate. 

Ms. Leigh will present ideas for creating a beautiful drought resistant garden.

 

February 17 (Wednesday) JOINT Evening Meeting

PROGRAM: BUGS! A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF BUGS IN THE GARDEN

Speaker:  Escher Cattle, Horticulture and Entomology Educator at Cape Cod Cooperative Extension

We’ll view with a lens and learn about pollinators/beneficials insects as animals. Mr. Cattle will explain why

particular kinds of insects choose particular kinds of flowers as well as insect anatomy and behavior.

 

March 10 (Wednesday) Morning Meeting

PROGRAM: “BLUEBERRIES AND RASPBERRIES”

Speaker:  Cathy Cetta, Master Gardener, former oceanic researcher and teacher.

She will discuss how to plan a vegetable garden design from start to finish, including spacing, companion plantings, and layout strategies

 

March 17 (Wednesday)  Evening Meeting  

5:30 Social followed by the Meeting & Program at 6:00 pm

PROGRAM:  “SAVING SEEDS AND TIPS FOR STARTING SEEDS”

Speaker: Melissa Pace is an award-winning horticulturist and Master Gardener. She will cover the essentials of seed starting and the fundamentals of seed saving.                      

 

April 14 (Wednesday) Morning Meeting

10:00 pm  Refreshments/Social followed by the Meeting & Program 

PROGRAM: “CREATIVE FLORAL DESIGN EXPLORED”

Time to showcase our club’s designers. Each will present a different design type from the NGC Handbook for Flower Shows. Our guest, An Accredited Flower Show Judge, will share her expertise

 

April 21 (Wednesday)  Evening Meeting

PROGRAM: “CREATING KOKEDAMAS!”

Speaker/Presentors:  Alda Barron and Kellee Twadelle

Remember those beautiful hanging moos baskets filled with flowers at last year’s Plant Sale? AGC members, Kellee Twadelle and Alda Barron will show us how to create our own!

PROGRAM:  “FROM FUNGI TO FORAGING “

Speaker: Jana Harris of Essex Foray is a certified wild mushroom food safety expert and member of the Boston Mycological Club.

Originally from Czechoslovakia, Jana grew up foraging mushrooms with her aunt and brings a lifetime of knowledge and passion to her work. Jana will take us on an exploration of fungi and discuss their vital roles in garden ecosystems.

 

May 20 (Wednesday)  Evening Meeting  

5:30 Social followed by the Meeting & Program at 6:00 pm

PROGRAM: “CONTAINER GARDENING WITH HYDRANGEA”                                                   

Speaker: Linda  Coven, owner of Strictly Hydrangeas

Ms. Coven will talk about the secrets/tips to create beautiful long-lasting containers to adorn your patio, porch or deck using hydrangeas as the thriller adding in combinations of filler and spillers.  You will also learn the benefit of planting your containers using the Bag-in-Pot or Pot-in-Pot System.

 

JUNE 10 (Wednesday) EVENING JOINT MEMBERS ONLY.  NO GUESTS

Location:  Pocasset Country Club 

BIENNIAL DINNER AND INSTALLATION OF NEW OFFICERS (Registration is required. Member’s cost TBD)

Come celebrate the club with awards and the installation of new officers.
